Although a relatively recent resident of Los Alamos, NM, she was from the Midwest with a great love of the heat and desert of Arizona. Born in Moline, Illinois she moved to the desert Southwest 3 times in her life and wishes for her ashes to be scattered near a Saguaro Cactus in Arizona.
Barbara passed peacefully in her sleep in her daughter and son-in-law’s home on the morning of July 12th, 2019, in Los Alamos, NM.
Preceded in death by her father Herman Edward Hohenstein and mother Mary Jean Rice. Her husband of 38 years Clinton “Bud” Sheesley and his daughter Sandy Kratz.
Survived by her daughter Pamela Skotnicki and son-in-law Richard Skotnicki of Los Alamos and her granddaughter Elizabeth L. Gove and her husband Michael Gove of Beverly, Massachusetts.
Survived by her step-son Robert Jay Sheesley of Winston-Salem, NC
Also survived by her step-daughter Arnette and her husband Rey, their daughter Abby, and their son Adam and his wife Jessica and their daughter.
Although never clearing the 5 foot mark on the ruler and being a natural strawberry blond she spent most of her working years as a Service Writer for various auto dealerships in the Quad City (Iowa/Ilinois) area. This was at a time that women in the Service Department were a rarity. Her favorite story to tell was when men would come in the service department and look over her head and proclaim “I need to talk to a man”, her response…”I do too”.
We will miss her… I (her daughter) have missed her for a very long time.
In lieu of flowers please donate to the Alzheimer’s Association or to your local Animal Shelter (for her love of cats).

I would like to send my prayers to Barb’s family in the passing of her mother. We become friends when we were in a group therapy class. After it was over we stayed friends and talked often and went to lunch. Were we got more help than in the class. Take care Pam
