Biography


Constance L’Ecuyer Newell, 90, of Los Alamos, NM passed away December 29, 2021, peacefully, with family by her side. She was born to the late Fabian and Hazel L’Ecuyer on February 24, 1931, in Athol, MA. She married the love of her life, Robert H. Newell on April 19, 1952 in Athol and together they had six children. They lived in California and Massachusetts before settling in Los Alamos, NM in 1964. Once her children were in school, Connie went back to work for Dr. Ann Wadstrom and volunteered at the hospital gift shop.


Connie is survived by her husband, Robert H. Newell of Los Alamos, NM; daughter, Suzanne Newell of Woodland Park, CO; son, Bill Newell (Deb) of Los Alamos, NM; son, Matt Newell (Terri) of Abiqui, NM; daughter, Maureen Shanklin (Kevin) of Kingsland, TX; son, John Newell (Teri) of Salt Lake City, UT and son, David Newell of Albuquerque, NM. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren, with another on the way. She was predeceased by her parents and three sisters. 


Connie will be forever remembered as a gentle, loving woman and a nurturing mother who adored her children and grandchildren. She was the matriarch of this large, close-knit family and she will always be missed. She leaves behind beautiful memories of a life dedicated to caring for others and a legacy of kindness that inspired all those around her.


Services for Connie will be held Saturday, January 15, 2022 at 10 am at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Los Alamos with a reception following in the Parish Hall.

I am so sad to hear about Connie's passing. Though I never had the honor of meeting her in person, we wrote back and forth for over 40 years, due to our love of genealogy within the family. I know she was very much loved, and will be missed by so very many. Rest in peace Connie!
