Biography


Helen M. Gabaldon, born March 10, 1938, passed away December 2, 2022 following a short illness.


Helen was born to Antonio and Pablina Montoya at the family home in Agua Fria. Helen graduated from the Loretto Academy and retired from the State of New Mexico. After retirement, Helen taught Pre-K at Santo Niño; she loved little children. She enjoyed her travels to various destinations around the world. Helen served in Catholic Daughters, San Isidro Altar Society, Praying Mothers, and St. John’s Soup Kitchen. What Helen loved more than anything in life was our Lord Jesus Christ, her granddaughters, and great-grandson.


Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings Emma Anaya (Henry), and Arturo Montoya. She is survived by her son, Damian and wife Marla, grandchildren, Jessica Romero, Gabriela and Dominique Gabaldon; great-grandson Cortez; siblings, Tony Montoya, Mary Frances Gonzales (Charlie), Alice Gallegos (Rubel); and sister-in-law Mae Montoya.


A celebration of her life will be held at Santa Maria de la Paz Catholic Church on December 16, 2022. Services include a rosary at 9:30 a.m., and the Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. A reception will follow at the parish hall. A private interment will be held at a future date.

Helen was a great union member when we both worked for HED. She had a very sharp sense of humor. She was a blast to work with at the St. John's Lunch Kitchen. I'm so glad I knew her and send her family and friends my condolences on her loss.
