Jim Eller Obituary


James “Jim” Murray Eller passed away on October 10th, 2022, in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Jim had a strong work ethic, high ideals and most importantly lived life on his own terms.


Jim was born on November 15th, 1938, in South Bend, Indiana. He graduated from The University of Texas with a Master’s in civil engineering. At age 26 Jim was commissioned in the Army via the University of Texas ROTC program. After successfully completing Ranger School and a year living in Bad Kissingen, Germany he served in the Vietnam War as a Combat Engineer Company Commander, earning several distinguished medals. He achieved the rank of Captain. Jim always said that his time in the Army was the best time of his life. Following his time in the Army Jim worked around the world as a Civil Engineer in Wastewater Treatment.


A burial service will be held at the Santa Fe National Cemetery on Monday, December 5th at 2:30pm. Please arrive promptly at 2:30 and stop at the sign that says “funeral procession, stop here” for the escort to the Committal Shelter where the burial ceremony will begin.

I had the pleasure of having Jim as a neighbor for several years, he was a veritable spring of knowledge about the area, and his love of the land, As was said, he lived life on his terms, I respect & admire him for that. So sad to see him taken down so fast, with so many things left undone. RIP Jim, you're in a better place.
