Joe “Joey” Elden Abeyta was called to his eternal resting place on September 20, 2020 unexpectedly.
A longtime resident of Espanola, NM, Joe was born on June 9, 1963 to Charlie Sr. and Floraida Abeyta in Embudo, New Mexico.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents Charlie Sr. and Floraida Abeyta, brothers Charlie Jr. and Mike Abeyta, grandson Martin Palacios Jr., nieces Lorena Casteneda, Ernestina “Tina” Dominguez, and Melinda “Mindy” Abeyta, great-nephew Oscar Casteneda, and brother-in-law Estevan Gallegos.
He is survived by his three children, daughters Vanessa Martinez and Heather Lopez, and son Daniel Ray Lopez, sisters Eida (Tony) Dominguez, Lorraine (Roy) Archuleta, Polly Gallegos, Nora (Manuel) Marrufo, Loyola (Rick) Sena, Vivian Vega, and Eva (Lorenzo) Varela, brothers Leroy (Magdalena) Abeyta, Rudy (Alice) Abeyta, and Ivan (Sylvia) Abeyta.
Joe had ten grandchildren, Leticia Martinez, Camila Palacios, Jesus Palacios, Jose Palacios, Matthew Martinez, Nyci Rodriguez, Isabella Rodriguez, Isaiah Rodriguez, Amaya Aguirres and Reina Aguirres. He was also blessed with thirty-two nephews and nieces, great nephews and nieces, many cousins and friends.
Joe will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. May he rest in peace until that glorious day Our Lord Jesus Christ comes to take us home!
Viewing was held at Rivera Family Funeral Home and Cremations of Espanola on September 24, 2020 for immediate family. Services were held September 28, 2020 at Victory Faith, followed by internment at Sacred Heart Church Cemetery.
