Biography

Josie Armijo, of Glorieta, New Mexico, age 89, passed away April 23, 2024. Josie was born February 15, 1935 in La Pasada, to the late Agustin Garcia and Cruzita Sandoval Garcia. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Nick Armijo Sr. and son, James Edward Armijo.

Josie grew up in El Macho canyon where she always talked about walking to church with her brothers and sisters and catching fish in the river. She spent her teens in Bayard, NM where she graduated from Saint Mary’s Catholic school. When she married Nick in 1955, they settled in Glorieta to raise their four children. They were both big fans of the Pecos Panthers and enjoyed going to the basketball games with their beloved compadres , Jr and Connie Garcia+. Josie was a dedicated OBGYN nurse, bringing many babies into this world over her 40 plus year career starting with The Craddle Home, St. Vincent Hospital, and The Pecos Valley Medical Center. Josie was a loving nurse and often remembered the names of children she helped deliver. In her retired years she enjoyed going to the senior center where she took interest in beading and the occasional trip to the casino. She also cherished outings with her grandchildren to her favorite restaurants, Sunrise for breakfast, where her coffee had to be extra hot, El Milagro or Red Lobster for dinner. She was always ready to go out to Starbucks for her favorite chai latte, and get her nails done.

Josie is survived by her children, Linda Velasquez (Ray), Anna Serrano (Marcos), and Nick Armijo (Bernadette); siblings, Angie Delgado and Adam Garcia (Carmen); grandchildren, Nicole Martinez (Andrew), Natalie Valdez (Philip), Victor Trujillo Armijo, Nicolas Armijo (Aliyah), Ivan Armijo (Megan), Bishop Armijo (Alex), Isaiah Trujillo Armijo, Abigail and Edgar Esparza, Everett Serrano and Larissa and Caleb Cardenes; great grandchildren, Iris Romero (Samuel), Rayanna Quintana (Chris), Elijah Lujan, Rosie Martinez, Elias Lujan, Darren Lovato, and Andrez and Nick Romero; great-great grandbabies, Samuel James, CJ, Xavier, and Isabella.
