Biography


Juan Onofre Duran, 83 years old, of Taos, NM, passed peacefully surrounded by family at their Roswell, NM, home on January 12, 2023.   He is preceded in death by his parents, Ricardo and Raquel Duran, brothers, Raymundo Duran, Virgilio Duran, Benito Duran, Gilbert (Junior) Duran, and sisters, Lena Gonzales, Isabel Chacon and Josefina (Fita) Shapiro.  He is survived by his spouse of 60 years of marriage, Maria Luisa Duran; his son John (Steve) Duran and wife Rosie, three grandsons, Jordan Duran, John Duran, and Justin Duran, sisters Lily Torres (Leonard), and Paulette (Orlando) Atencio, family, and friends.


He serves our Lord, Jesus Christ, and was an active parishioner of San Francisco de Asís in Ranchos de Taos. He was a member of the Cofradia de Nuestro Padre Jesus Nazareno, and an hermano in the Morada de San Francisco de Asís.


The Rosary will be held Saturday morning, January 21, 2023, at 8:30 am, followed by the funeral mass at 10:00 am at San Francisco de Asis Catholic Church. Interment will be on Monday, January 23, 2023, at 12:30 pm at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
