Mary F. Vigil, a loving mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully Tuesday September 20th, 2022, with her family at her side. Mary was born in Pilar, NM in November 1934 and was 87 years old. Mary was preceded in death by her mother, Felipita (Pacheco) Vigil, her father, Enriquez Vigil, her daughter, Tammy Vigil and her brothers, Felix Vigil, Meliton Vigil and Orlando Vigil. She is survived by her son, Terry Chester (Josie), grandchildren, Amanda Sanchez, Richard Sanchez (Angela), Nicholas Chester, Kara Atkinson (Robert) and Ryanda Sanchez, great grandchildren, Dominic Sanchez, Josiah Sanchez, Ember Atkinson, and Link Romero, brothers and sisters, Henry Vigil, Helen Santistevan, Vicky Valerio, Betty Trujillo (Steve), and Billy Vigil (Rose) and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Mary was a kind, giving and loving person. She was always the first to help those in need. She was very strong in her Catholic Faith. Mary had many passions in life, and all involved giving back to her community. Mary worked for many years in the banking industry, including Centinel Bank and Western Bank in Taos. After her retirement, Mary travelled extensively including most European countries, Egypt, Morocco and within the United States. Mary’s greatest joy was spending time with family. Mary will always be loved beyond words, and she will be extremely missed by all those who adore her.
Funeral services will be Saturday October 8th, 2022, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Taos NM. Rosary will be at 9am followed by funeral mass at 10am and committal at Pacheco Cemetery. Reception will follow at St. Joseph’s Hall.

I will truly miss my Aunt Mary. She was kindhearted, gentle and gracious. As a young teen, Aunt Mary influenced me in demeanor and grace. She believed that as a young lady, I should always be graceful in speech and manner. She was a great admirer of Elizabeth Taylor and loved Taylors eyebrows. I sat and watched as she formed her eyebrows to look exactly like Cleopatra. I also spent many hours playing dress up with the clothes she had in storage. She never suspected. She had amazing taste in clothes. I love you Aunt Mary, thanks for all the memories, you added such great meaning during my teen years and later into my adulthood. May all the angels and saints be waiting to deliver you to the Lord.
