Forever in our hearts
On January 25, 2021, Richard “Rick” Rendon died in an automobile accident at age 62.
Rick was born on July 21, 1958 in Embudo, New Mexico to Epimenio and Juanita (Mascareñas) Rendon. Rick grew up in Leadville, Colorado in a close-knit family with incredibly loving parents and siblings that were, naturally, Denver Broncos fans. Since childhood, Rick was enamored with automobiles. In his early 20s, Rick moved to Dixon, New Mexico, and his passion for auto repair and body work flourished. His craftsmanship and pride shined bright after a restoration, modification, or paint job that was nothing short of “cherry.” He always had “locote” cars, trucks, and motorcycles. One of his prized vehicles was “La Negra”, a black 1985 Chevy Silverado short bed truck with a 3-inch body lift, 6-inch suspension lift, 39x18 inch tires, and dark tinted windows. Rick appropriately cruised around in a pair of black boots, blue Levi’s jeans, black t-shirt, and dark sunglasses. The man behind the sunglasses was serious, reserved, tough, and had a tender and deep heart.
Rick survived multiple tragedies and no one can know the pain he endured. Rick was preceded in death by his father Epimenio; wife Cheryl; and son Matthew (Stephaine).
Rick is survived by his mother, Juanita; his girlfriend, Judy Hice; his siblings, Doris, David (Jackie), Steve (Carol), Lori Archuleta (Victor), and Dennis (Mandi); his children, who all inherited his charming smile, Fabian Aguilar (Roxanne), Nikki (CJ), Roland (Katie), and Elias Salazar; his grandchildren, Anthony, Matthew Jr., Krystall, Jesse James Aguilar, and Mayson Salazar; his great-grandchildren, Anthony Jr. and Aubriella; and many other dear relatives and friends.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a private service with virtual streaming to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, February 6.
The Family of Mr. Rendon has entrusted their loved ones gentle care to Rivera Family Funerals and Cremations of Espanola.

Nikki, Roland & rest of the family, my heart grieves for the loss of your father. I met him when your mom Cheryl & I worked together at Centro Campesino. Your mom was a very special friend of mine.(She loved you both dearly)Yes, I remembered the black truck & how high it was & the big tires. good description of how your father dressed. He was very helpful to us when there was a need. May you find comfort & peace in turning to God.

He would always address us by Prima and Primo and that always made us feel really good. He was always respectful and always asked for others. You are in our continued thoughts and prayers!
