Robert Lorenzo Barela
Robert Lorenzo Barela was tragically taken from our family on Monday, November 18, 2019. He is preceded in death by his grandparents Lorenzo and Josefita Barela, Fidel Lopez and Eva Montoya, his father George Barela, and the love of his life Genevieve “Beva” Mascarenas. He is survived by his beautiful mother Dolores, his brothers Michael and wife Diane, Steve, Paul and wife Johnette, his only sister JoAnn and husband David Storch, his nephews Michael James Barela and David Storch, his nieces Victoria Barela, Michelle Barela-Tercero, Talia Storch, and Sheree Barela-Kornelson, and his beloved adopted children Alma Garcia, Jenelle Roybal, Santiago Mascarenas, and Hugo Lopez, and their children.
Lorenzo was the definition of love. He lived to help others and bring a smile to any face he saw. If he wasn’t filling your stomach with food, he was filling your ear with a story or a joke, and always filling your face with a smile. He knew what he had to offer the world, and he offered everything he had to anyone who needed it. Loren was the first person to offer to help, no matter the project. He did not value possessions, he valued people, and he loved with every breath he took. Whether he was making beautiful furniture out of scrap wood, or cooking holiday meals for family-less friends, he did it with love. His generosity was truly unmeasurable and in his short time on earth he touched countless lives. He was one of a kind and will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him.
Our family would like to thank everyone who came to pay condolences, brought food, sent cards and flowers, and comforted us during this incredibly difficult time. A private memorial service has taken place, and a celebration of life will be scheduled and announced at a later date.

Our deepest condolences to the Barela family. Lorenzo touched many with his kind heart. We have forever memories of him in our yard. He trimmed our apricot tree last summer. He helped me bring our firepit home. He laid our the brick for our gazebo. No job that we trusted him to do was left undone. He took his time and everything he did for us was precise. He took pride in the work he did no matter how big or small the job was. He was an amazing individual and he will be missed. Rest in peace ♡ vecino
