George Lorio

George Lorio D.D.S. , a longtime resident of Los Alamos, passed away peacefully at El Castillo on Saturday, January 24, 2015 surrounded by the prayers of beloved friends and family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ignacio Paul and Clara Lorio. George was born November 13, 1936 in David, Panama. He will be lovingly missed by his wife of 47 years, Kathy: his children, Krista (Mike) of Minneapolis, MN, Michael (Mikal) of Wilsonville, OR, Kevin (Joletta) of Hood River, OR and Christopher of Norfolk, VA.; his beloved sisters Clarita Collins, Elvira (Gilbert) Luna and his only brother Alvaro Lorio, and many wonderful nieces and nephews. He held a special place in his heart for his three beautiful granddaughters, Jensen, Kyra and Emma.
At the age of 14 George moved to Louisiana, the birthplace of his father, to attend Holy Cross Junior High School in New Orleans. After graduating from High School, George joined the Air Force and spent three years in Lake Charles, LA and one year in London where he worked as an X-Ray technician. He attended college at LSU in Baton Rouge, LA and completed dental school at Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI where he met his wife, Kathy. In 1967, George rejoined his sister, Elvira, and brother-in-law, Gilbert Luna, in Los Alamos where he set up his dental practice and worked for thirty-three years before retiring in 2000. He loved his patients and cherished his staff who were so loyal to him. George enjoyed exploring the beaches of Mexico, Costa Rica and the archipelagos of Panama. The last seven summers of his life he spent with Kathy in Hood River, OR., where he marveled at the beauty of the Columbia River Gorge and watched his granddaughters grow up.
Everyone who knew him was blessed to know such a kind and gentle soul. A prayer service and celebration of his life will be held in the Community Room in the River Bldg. at El Castillo, 250 East Alameda Street, Santa Fe, NM on Friday, February 13, 2015 at 11:00 AM. The Lorio family wishes to extent their gratitude to the staff at El Castillo for their loving kindness.
