Terry Egbert

Biografía

Terry Walter Egbert. On September 25, 2015, Terry was called upon by his Lord to sing in the heavens. He passed away in his sleep from a massive heart attack in his home. He was 65. Terry was the middle son of Earl and Edna Egbert in Santa Cruz, California. From the beginning Terry was larger than life. He could light up a room with his warmth and jovial spirit. In 1972, Terry graduated from Nebraskas Hastings College with degrees in voice and music education.

He was constantly singing and could raise an audience to their feet in cheer. He even inspired those who would typically sing only in church, (or only in the shower), to be braver, find their voice and sing fearlessly from their hearts. Terry was always singing, whether it was harmonizing with the popcorn machine, or singing bluegrass with Still Waters, barbershop with the Santa Fe Harmonizers, singing while building homes in NOLA with Habitat for Humanity, singing while repairing model railroad locomotives, when fishing, or singing hymns with the church choirs.

Terry met the love of his life, and his life long accompanist Lee Egbert at Hastings College. Santa Fe was where they called home. Their music was an expression of love and faith for 43 years of marriage. He was an incredible father to their two children, Jana and Stephen. He championed his family to do their personal best, live life with the motto Carpe Diem, and never forget where they came from.

Terry was an assiduous teacher on many subjects from the building blocks of life, marriage, faith, construction, music, and well, just about anything else he experienced. He shared his life with everyone he met, and they were better for it.

Terry believed that to be in business meant being a part of the community in every way. He built amazing custom homes; remodeled, constructed and roofed structures all over New Mexico. He influenced how people lived giving all his mind, body, and soul through his actions. Terry was a founding participant in the Santa Fe Harmonizers, the Zozobra Chairman in Kiwanis, and a volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America.

Over his 43 years in Santa Fe, Terry embarked on a spiritual journey with the First Presbyterian Church, the Untied Church of Santa Fe, Christ Church, St. Johns United Methodist, and the Sangre de Cristo Fellowship. He gave deeply to each congregation he was a member of. He believed and lived the gospel.

His father, Earl Egbert of Santa Cruz, CA, preceded Terry in death. Terry is survived by his wife Lee Egbert; his daughter Jana Amacher and her husband John; his granddaughter Natalya; his son Stephen Egbert of Hollywood, CA; his mother Edna Egbert and brothers Will and Robin Egbert of Santa Cruz, CA; and his niece Stephanie Egbert, of Gilroy, CA.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, October 8, 2015 at St. Johns United Methodist Church in Santa Fe, 1200 Old Pecos Trail. In lieu of flowers the family desires memorial gifts may be made directly to Hastings College, Department of Music, 710 North Turner Avenue, Hastings, Nebraska, 68901, 1-800-775-2585.

I knew Terry from when I worked in the building inspector’s office at City Hall. He was a good and honest contractor. He was also my neighbor and I could not have asked for a better one. One time my water heater burst while I was away on vacation and he turned off my water at the main valve. He always waved as he drove by my driveway. That was the kind of man he was and he will be missed. Lee, and family you will be in our prayers.
