Blair Michael Art

October 28th, 1968 - November 22nd, 2023

Biography

On Wednesday, November 22nd, 2023, Blair Michael Art, father of three, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 55. Blair was born on October 28th, 1968, in Denver, CO to Jon and Susan Art. He received his undergraduate degree from Colorado State University, where he met his wife of 27 years, Kellie. The couple moved to Los Alamos, NM where they were married and went on to raise three children, Chandler, Cameron and Jon.

During his time in Los Alamos, he pursued and received his Master of Science in Nuclear Engineering from the University of New Mexico, alongside his wife. Known for his incredible work ethic and dedication to his profession, Blair spent over 25 years working at Los Alamos National Laboratory, where he was respected and held in high esteem by his colleagues.

An avid outdoorsman, Blair enjoyed fly fishing in northern New Mexico and hiking in the Valles Caldera. A known collector of Peanuts memorabilia and antique books, he loved reading. He instilled a similar love in his children and enjoyed discussing their most recent read with them. The ultimate grill master, Blair’s backyard barbeques were both well-known and well-attended by friends and family. When enjoying time with loved ones, he could always be counted on for goofy “dad jokes” and puns.  As a die-hard hockey fan, Blair also enjoyed watching the latest Colorado Avalanche game, listening to hockey radio, and discussing season standings and statistics.

Throughout his life, Blair had a passion for sports and played hockey, baseball, football and rugby. He shared this passion with his children by encouraging their participation in athletics. He was known for his presence on the sidelines of many soccer fields across New Mexico and spent his weekends driving long distances taking his daughter to hockey games all over Colorado. Blair was a fierce supporter of his children’s activities throughout their childhood and beyond.

Blair is survived by his children, Chandler, Cameron (Jennifer) and Jon; their mother, Kellie; his grandchildren, Oliver and Miles; his parents, Jon and Susan Art; his siblings, Carol Chiodo and Cameron Art; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Blair made a tremendous impact on those around him, and his presence will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10am on Friday, December 29th, 2023, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Los Alamos, NM. The service will be preceded by a rosary at 9:30am.

Kellie and family. So sorry for your loss. Blair was a special individual so full of life, always had a smile and loved Rugby. I remember how you pushed so hard to our hiring him when you were still a graduate student and not married yet. He was an inspiration to me and all of us! God Bess you all.

I was saddened to hear of Blair's passing.

Blair was good-hearted and ready to laugh. I have two fond childhood memories: competing over the length of french fries at McDonalds, and rescuing younger brother Cam from a gaggle of irritated geese in Wascana Park in Regina. Memorable moments come at unexpected times.

Life brings hills and valleys. Hopefully Blair is at peace now. My most sincere condolences to all family members. With love, John Melin
