Biography

Danuta Pogorski passed away peacefully at Santa Fe Care Center on January 6, 2014.
Born in Warsaw, Poland her education was interrupted by the start of World War II. As a teenager and following the early death of her father, Danuta and her mother, Maria Jablonowska, became members of the Polish resistance movement (Armia Karjowa or AK) and fought in the heroic and tragic 63-day Warsaw Uprising of 1944 in an effort to liberate the beautiful city of Warsaw from Nazi occupation.

After the war Danuta emigrated to England and from there came to the United States, became a US citizen, living first in Cleveland, OH and then in Santa Fe, NM since 1967 where she retired from the College of Santa Fe.
Danutas remains will be interred with her mother at Our Lady of Czestochowa Catholic Cemetery in Doylestown, PA where they are honored as veteran resistance fighters of WWII.

My sincere condolences to you and your family. Revelation 21:4 make this promise, it says: " And he (God) will wipe out every tear from their eyes and death will be no more, neither will morning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away." What a beautiful promise, we all look forward, from our loving Creator, (Jehovah God, Psalm 83:18). May the God of peace be with you and your family.

Sincerely Yours,
Brandy Molina

It had been many years ago since I last saw and spoke to Danuta. One day last year I thought I saw Danuta at a distance, of course I rushing to get home. I met Danuta at CSF when she was the science department secretary and I was the student work study for the department. At that time I was very young, getting a degree and learning about people and life. It was interesting to hear about Daunta and her mother, Maria living in Ohio. She did not speak of her time in war torn Europe. Now as an adult I can see why she did not. Daunta, may you rest in peace with all our love ones in heaven above. And thank you for your friendship and advise.

Ms Pogorski was a lovely woman that I got to know as I was her Physical therapist on three different occasions in her home over the past several years. Although she had physical problems limiting her mobility she was still quite independent. We had a connection as I am half Polish. She told me many stories about her years as a Member of the Warsaw underground resistance and also gave me a book about it.
I will always remember this brave and wonderful lady and she will always be an inspiration to me.
