Donald L Hull

November 5th, 1937 - April 25th, 2023

Biography

Donald L. Hull, 85, of Los Alamos, New Mexico, and Centerville, Massachusetts, passed away after a short illness on April 25, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.

Born and raise in Hyannisport, Cape Cod, Massachusetts, Don pursued higher education at the University of Maine, Wentworth Institute of Technology, and Iowa State University. After college, Don accepted a position at Argonne National Laboratory and moved to Downers Grove, Illionois. He also served in the U.S. National Guard before moving to Ames, Iowa, to work at Ames Laboratory for 17 years. In September of 1979, Don moved to Los Alamos, New Mexico, to work at Los Alamos National Laboratory until retiring in 1993.

Don enjoyed playing and watching sprots, particularly baseball and basketball. He was a lifelong fan of the Boston Red Sox and enjoyed attending the Cotuit Kettleers games in the Cape Cod Baseball League. He loved boats and enjoyed sailing and pleasure boating on Centerville Long Pond. Don also had a soft spot for all animals, and he had several loving cat companions over the years. He took care of the wild birds and reveled in the wildlife that came through his yard.

Don was a reserved and loyal man, with a kind and generous heart. He will be remembered for his intelligence, wit, humility, and unwavering support for his loved ones.

Don is survived by a loving family who will deeply miss him. His wife of 62 years, Jan, will hold the memories of their life together close at heart. Don was a proud father to his children, Stephen and Cynthia, who will forever cherish the love and guidance he provided them throughout their lives. Don was fortunate to have five grandsons, and a great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents Fredrick and Marjorie Hull, and his sister, Marcia.

A private ceremony will be held on Cape Cod, a special place that was always near to Don’s heart. The family asks that a donation be made in Don’s name to a charity of your choice or to an animal rescue organization that he admired, the New England Society for Abandoned Animals (NESAA) at www.nessa.org/donate.html.

The Rivera Family of Los Alamos is honored to care for Donald, and his lovely wife and family. Please post notes, stories and pictures for Janet and her children to enjoy from New Mexico to Cape Cod.

Dear dear Jan, I was so very sorry to hear about your precious husband Don! Linda emailed me of the sad news last night and of course I Iooked on the Daily Post this morning. I didn't know him well, but the obituary seems to capture his gifts and attributes completely. My heart goes out to you and you are in my fervent prayers as you begin this painful grief journey. Are you in Los Alamos, or is anything planned here? I'd love to give you a big hug! With much love and sincere sympathy, Cathy Walters
