Dora Chavez

1956 - October 1st, 2023

Biography

Dora V. Chavez a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother passed away peacefully at her home on October 1, 2023.

Dora was born in 1956 to Esmael “Agapito” and Julia Valerio of Taos, New Mexico.  She was raised in Taos and graduated from Taos High School in 1974.  She met and married Harry Chavez shortly after high school. For the next 25 years they traveled the world together while Harry served in the United Sates Army.  Dora was a devoted military spouse and a loving mother, raising her three children during this time.

Over the years she picked up numerous hobbies, from pottery to crocheting to basket weaving.  She was also quite adventurous and loved sightseeing.  She enjoyed watching murder mysteries and showed us all what a great detective she would have made.

She is preceded in death by her father, Agapito and brother, Allen. She is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, Harry, daughters, Cheryl (Bernardo) and Karen (Gilbert), son, Jason (Miquela), mother, Julia, brother, Johnny (Christine) and nine grandchildren.

Services will be held at St. Francis de Assisi Church in Ranchos de Taos, New Mexico. Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, October 10, 223 at 6 PM. Funeral Mass will be Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at 10 AM

Harry, my deepest condolences to you, and the rest of your family. Dora was my best friend from kindergarten (llano Quemado elementary) to Taos High school. She was always so much fun. We learned so many things together, and always wished those days would have never ended. She was like my sister, and treated me like one. Johnny my condolences to you as well. God Bless you All.
