Edward "Eddie" Duran

Edward "Eddie" Duran

January 21st, 1960 - January 24th, 2024

Biography

DURAN, Edward “Eddie” Eugene

Eddie Duran was born on January 21, 1960, and passed into the fullness of everlasting life on January 24, 2024. A proud and lifelong Santa Fean, Eddie graduated in the class of 1978 from Santa Fe High. In September of 1983 he married the love of his life, Karen Vigil, with whom he went on to build a wonderful family and numerous friendships. Eddie served his community as Captain and Battalion Chief with the Santa Fe Fire Department, his origins as a Fire Fighter/EMT Paramedic, retiring in 2005 after 22 1/2 years of service. After retiring, he served for 7 years as Nurse Coordinator with Santo Niño Regional Catholic School. Suffice it to say, Eddie never really retired, as he continued to do various jobs, big and small, for friends and family wherever there was a need. Eddie loved people and was always ready to put a smile on their faces by telling a joke or two, no matter if it was good or bad. However, there is no one that he loved more, nor was there anyone that he was prouder of than his own family. Eddie is survived by his mother, Mary Ruth, his beloved wife Karen, his two daughters, Amy Vigil-Pecherski, and her husband, James, Jacqueline Kate Crespin, and her husband, Justin, one son Kenneth Lucas Duran, and his partner, Mark Childers, his “adopted son,” Happy Johnson, 5 grandchildren, Lucas James Pecherski, Mason Alexander Pecherski, Athena Taylor Pecherski, Mariah Kate Johnson, Hailey Lailani Johnson, Sebastian Reyes Crespin, and his fur grand-baby Isaiah. Eddie is preceded in death by his father, Frank Duran, and grandson, Evan Kaspor Pecherski. Services are planned for Wednesday, February 21st, at The Cathedral Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi, 131 Cathedral Place. A Rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Committal will follow immediately after at Santa Fe Memorial Gardens, 417 Rodeo Road. A reception, in celebration of Eddie’s life, will be held following the Committal in the La Terraza Room at La Fonda on the Plaza, 100 East San Francisco Street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Santo Niño Regional Catholic School.

My deepest condolences to you and your family Karen! I worked with Eddie at SMEM for several years. He always had a joke or two to tell and he always shared how the family he loved so much was doing! I was fortunate enough to see Eddie for one last time in December. He just happened to stop by the office and we talked old times and family! I look back now and I am so glad I was given this one last opportunity to visit with him. I left it with Eddie with me saying to him "Don't be a stranger"! I look back now and this was a blessing from God to make this last connection with Eddie. He was happy and this is how I will remember him always!

My sincere condolences to the entire Duran family.

I am deeply saddened by his death.

Back in the days of the College of Santa Fe we became very good friends and kept in touch throughout the times I visited Santa Fe.

We ran into each other a couple of years ago at Tomas and just could not stop looking at each other and talked for such a great while.

I just can’t believe that he’s gone. I will surely miss him and our College Days!

I was very saddened to learn of Eddie's passing. Many many years ago I worked for the City both in HR and in different other capacities. I met Eddie when he was in the Fire service and what a gem. His smile was infectious and his kindness was ever-present. My condolences to his family and his friends who are now dealing with the grief of losing his physical presence.

Eddie was one of my favorite cousins. Always smiling, I never heard a harsh word come from his mouth. He was at my shop right after Christmas and he looked so good. He was the person more people should be like. He definitely will be missed.

I got to know Eddie and Karen when Eddie did some work for them at their home in Rancho Viejo. Soon, they were dropping by on Sundays for coffee and a blossoming friendship. My parents, Shirley and George Boullosa, were a generation older than Eddie and Karen, and, as their friendship grew, Eddie sometimes called my Dad the grandfather Eddie never knew. As my parent's health declined and things became difficult for my sister and me, I thanked God every day for friends like Eddie and Karen. After my parents passed, Eddie and Karen remained presence in my and my sister's lives. My sister and Eddie shared a wicked sense of humor, and at our evenings at Tomasita's, it was always who was going to pull whose chain first! Even after I moved back to the East Coast, we kept in touch, getting together again at Tomasita's when I visited.

The term "salt of the earth" describes Eddie to a Tee. His grounding in family, faith, and home, made Eddie rich in the only things that matter.

I am so grateful to have those memories of the affection Eddie showed my father in his last years, of Eddie's mischievous grin, dinners out with him and Karen at Tomasita's, and so honored to have called Eddie my friend.

Karen, no man could have had a more wonderful wife. The love you shared still surrounds you in every stone of the home you and Eddie built together, and in the children and grandchildren you cherished.

You are in my heart and prayers.

Eddie delivered my son Greg in 1991. He was premature and this took place in the middle of the living room floor. It was the first baby he had ever delivered. After that he stayed in contact with us over the years and even attended some of my son’s birthday parties. Later I became a Santa Fe Police Officer and would frequently run calls with Eddie. He was always such a great guy and had a good heart. Rest in peace Eddie. You will be missed by many. My condolences go out to Eddie’s family during this difficult time.

Dear Karen and family I am shocked and don’t understand why? My family and I love you all as family to us. You all have in you your beautiful mom and your dad’s beautiful ways. Eddie touched and helped so many lives and made them better. He did a wonderful job of doing what God asks. Feed the hungry, heal the sick clothe the naked and bury the dead. Eddie did as Our Lord Father God asks; be it as a paramedic, nursing a sick child to feeding someone who was hungry. God is now telling Eddie welcome home my good and faithful son - enter into My Kingdom. We will all meet again at some point. In God’s realm surely Charles and Mario your bros I’m sure have met up. We keep you all in our prayers for your family’s unity and love to grow on this journey. Yes Eddie loves you and is so proud of all of you. We are so blessed to have you all I. Out lives.
