Edwin W. Gonzales

Edwin W. Gonzales, 57, of Santa Fe, passed away suddenly on Friday, July 1, 2011 in Santa Fe. Edwin was born on May 10, 1954 in San Diego, CA, the son of Margarito Gonzales and Yvonne Gonzales Romero.

He graduated from Santa Fe High in 1973 and earned an Associates Degree in Construction Technology from Santa Fe Community College in 1997. He was currently Liquor Manager at Smiths Food and Drug, and Director of the Soup Kitchen at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. In previous years, he was Club Manager at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2951 and was self employed in construction. He devoted his life to his passions: cooking, working with his hands and serving those in need, striving to make a difference with the work he did.

He is preceded in death by his father, Margarito Gonzales, his brother, Ron Gonzales and numerous aunts and uncles. He is survived by his mother, Yvonne Gonzales Romero, his loving wife of 9 years, Hazeldine (Romero) Gonzales, son Adam (Alicia) Gonzales, grandchildren, Felicity ad Deangelo, siblings, Delfino Cubby (Connie) Gonzales of Montrose, CO, Peggy (Gaston) Gothuey of Santa Fe, Margaret Anita (Rudy) Gonzales of Rio Rancho, NM, David (Paula) Gonzales of Santa Fe, sister-in-law, Cynthia Gonzales, in-laws, Frank and Delphy Romero, sisters-in-law, Jeanette (Edward) Martinez of Santa Fe and Jacqueline Romero of Santa Fe, brother-in-law, Frank (Luana) Romero of El Paso, TX and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

Pallbearers will be Daniel McCann, Michael Gonzales, Gabe Gonzales, Paul Gonzales, Charlotte Martinez and Edward Martinez. Honorary pallbearers will be Elizabeth McCann, Jesse Martinez, Frank Romero Jr., and Carlos Roybal.

Public visitation and rosary were held on July 6, 2011. Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on July 7, 2011. Both services were held at St. Johns Catholic Church. Interment followed at Rosario Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Edwins name to the Soup Kitchen at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. The Gonzales family has entrusted their loved one to:
