Dear Mary Alice and Bill,
Visits will Elizabeth were always a special part of my many trips to Taos over the years. I always felt the clear air and brilliant light of New Mexico radiated through her beautiful skin and bright eyes. All that love and those dear hugs and good conversation will be very much missed.
Elizabeth, you are now lighting the way for all of us and I am grateful to have known you and received that great gift of your dear daughter's friendship.

That was a lovely obit and a wonderful tribute to your mother who lived such a full life. Seeing that picture was like going back 50 years! I would have recognized your mother anywhere - she looked the same I remember and that was wonderful. I hope the end came peacefully and that you are OK. Both of us send our sincerest condolences in this time of grieving. As a genealogist you know this about the departure of our loved ones - they are never really gone because our memories of them give them immortality. Finally, your mother is with your dad - a darling couple if we ever saw one.
Love from both of us,
Carol & Steve

I first met Elizabeth about 10 years ago when I visited Mary Alice for the first time. I live on Cape Cod, and Elizabeth (having lived in New England herself) and I shared a mutual fondness for lighthouses. We exchanged many cards, gifts and letters whith photos and other depictions of lighthouses on them. She was a wonderful person, loving, caring, and fun. I will miss her. Whenever I see a lighthouse I will think of her, and know that her "beacon light" is shining brightly where she is now.

Elizabeth was one of the MOST loving of God's children. Embracing all of God's people. She loved everyone. She prayed for all those in need. She loved art, birds, music, (Cardinals, especially) and was a devoted member of St. James Episcopal Church in Taos. Elizabeth had no faults. She was an absolute ANGEL. God is lucky that she is in heaven. God will have God's hands full! We miss you Elizabeth....Lots of Love, John & Rick

I am a close friends with John Wise, and he informed of Elizabeth's passing. I only met her once, but it was a lovely experience.

John had such great love in his heart for his dear friend, I told him because he could not come to Taos for the service, I would go to represent him.

I look forward to honoring this noble woman.

Dear MA & Bill,
What a joy it was to know your mother for 20 years! From the blueberry muffins she made for "her" Tom and my little Tom in Paradise, CA, to our adventure in the 1989 earthquake and then our first trip to Taos together, and all the many visits after she became an official New Mexican . . . her "spunk" and her great love for all of God's children were - and are - a marvelous light in my life. I was - and am - so blessed to be so richly loved by your Mom.
Much love to you both in these days.
Anne

Many brave hearts are asleep in the deep; your Mom was certainly one of the bravest, and I send you the memories I have of her. Actually, they are mostly about how wonderfully charming and happy she and your Dad were when Debra and I visited them in Surrey. They both didn't know us from Adam's off ox, but they couldn't have been nicer or more gracious to both of us; I thank her for those memories.

Love and affection, Peter

I was very saddened to learn that the world had lost such a dear soul. Mary Alice's Mom and Dad helped nurture me back to health at their home in Surrey, England, after I'd been in a motor scooter accident in Spain in November 1971 or '72. I remember well the roaring fire in the sitting room, where we would all have a wee glass of brandy as the sun went down. I was traveling with Mary Alice's former brother-in-law, Don Smith, and we spent Thanksgiving with the Merritt's that year. Mrs. Merritt prepared not turkey, the best lamb I've ever had to this day. After several days in their care, I was well enough to travel to London, then home. I shall never forget the tenderness shown to me at a time when I was vulnerable and homesick. Mary Alice's loss is a loss for us all.
