Felepita M. Barela

Mrs. Felepita M. Barela age 98 of Chimayo, NM. died peacefully on Thursday February 12, 2009. A lifelong resident of Chimayo-She enjoyed gardening, fishing, picking Pinon, and making special blankets for family members. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Feladelfio 5 years ago, parents Felix and Maria De La Cruz Martinez, sister Bonifacia Marujo, brother Bernardino Martinez, grandsons: Dennis, Louie and Ricky Barela and wife Darlene, great grandson Armando Quintana and son in law Andres Salazar. She is survived by her children Gilbert Barela and companion Dora of Chimayo, Nora Barela of Chimayo, Modesta Montoya and husband Tito of Nevada, and Sophia Pope of Albuquerque, Grandchildren: Anna Flor Barela, Clarissa Rodriguez and husband Tony, Christine Barela and companion Daniel, Felix Barela and wife Shelly, Irene Quintana, Ted, Isaac and Lawrence Barela, 32 great grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren including Norma & James Barela who were raised by her, and other relatives. Recitation of the rosary will be held Friday evening at 7:00 pm in the chapel of Block-Salazar Mortuary, and the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 11:00 am at Holy Family Catholic Church with interment to follow at the church cemetery.
