Biography

Floyd A. “Mula” Miller (Meeler), 73, Santa Fe, was called home to Our Precious Lord on Saturday, April 13, 2024 after a long battle with mutiple health complications. He was born on May 21, 1950 to former U.S. Marshall and City of Santa Fe Chief of Police Rudolph G. Miller and Alice M. (Manzanares), in Santa Fe, NM.

He attended St. Anne’s Catholic school, then attended St. Michael’s High School where he excelled infootball and graduated with the last all male class of 1968. On August 1, 1970 he married the love of his life, Roberta A. Romero, a 1968 graduate from Loretto Academy’s last class. They were blessed with 4 wonderful children and built a beautiful family centering their life around God and their many years of involvement in different ministries through the Catholic Church. He worked as a Correctional Officer for the NM State Penitentiary for 1 year and then made the move to the NM State Highway Dept. which began his long career working first on road crews and later ending up in Safety. In 1984, He left the State Highway Dept. and was hired on as the Safety Director for the City of Santa Fe. In 1991 he returned to the NM State Highway Dept, which he lovingly referred to as the “Orange Army”. He worked as the Safety and Loss Control Manager, saving the State millions of dollars in losses until his retirement in April of 1997. He remained retired for 3 years and then went to work for the NM Association of Counties, where he worked for 4 years in Loss Control.

Throughout the demand of his job, he maintained an active involvement in the Catholic Church and was dedicated to the Cursillos de Cristiandad Movement, Marriage Enrichment, Los Hermanos Cruzados, and played guitar for countless Masses, funerals, retreats, and many other music ministries and also writing many religious songs.

He was a past member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #2811, as well as a life member of La UnionProtectiva de Santa Fe; following in the footsteps of his grandfather George Miller, and father Rudolph G. Miller, passing along that tradition to his two sons, Kevin and Mark.In his retirement years, Floyd enjoyed sharing stories with friends and family about spending manysummers in Abiquiu with his maternal grandmother, uncles and cousins. He spent time doing pen and ink drawings, acrylic and oil paintings, wood carving and teaching himself tin work. He was truly a gifted man. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, hiking and horseback riding, (which unfortunately he was unable to enjoy due to his failing health).

I offer sincere condolences to Roberta and the family of Floyd Miller on the loss of their beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. May Our Lord Jesus, who Floyd served so faithfully, bring you comfort in your grief. Floyd was a good friend and fellow Horseman. I have wonderful memories of time spent with him and Roberta in Santa Fe. One sweet memory is of a weekend camping trip with our two families at Santa Clara Lake. May Floyd rest in peace.

We were so saddened to hear the passing of Floyd. Losing any family member is awful. I will never forget those treasured times I spent with my cousins… Floyd, Dennis and Rudy Jr. We all hung out together every day in 1964 through 1966 before I moved back to Albuquerque with my dad. I’m so sorry that I couldn’t attend the services and the internment at Rosario Cemetery. I just had a biopsy done and I have a follow up appointment on Tuesday. Sending our sympathy… Love, prayers and thoughts to the entire family.

Love, Steve and Kim Lynn

Floyd, we will miss you. You were (and are) such an inspiration to your classmates at St. Mike's. Roberta, we hold you in our prayers. May God watch over your family in this time of sorrow. Yet we know that Floyd is entertaining the other angels with his music and stories and is waiting for the rest of us to catch up with him. Rest in power and glory, Floyd!
