Biography


George Wilfred Amos, PhD, was born in Montgomery, Alabama on August 23,1937, and passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home on October 24, 2022. He was the sonOf Dr. And Mrs. Hobart P. Amos. His father was a Baptist minister and George wasRaised in the Baptist church. He started his formal education at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, Arkansas, where he joined the Arkansas Student UnionAnd worked tirelessly in leadership positions within the student organization. ThroughHis affiliation with the Arkansas Student Union, George made lifelong friendshipsWhich he cherished throughout his life.In addition to Arkansas State University, George is the alumnus of the University of Florida and the University of Arkansas where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa with aDoctorate in English Literature.George was a man of many talents. Being the scholar he was, anything he undertookWas studied and researched thoroughly. He was a gifted photographer and writerOf prose, poetry, and he especially loved satire. He used these skills throughoutHis life in his work.George was a professor of English Literature at Louisiana Tech University in Ruston,Louisiana and served as head of the English Department at Louisiana College in Pine Ville, Louisiana for 10 years prior to his move to New Mexico.In 1978, George and his wife Donna moved to New Mexico where George became a Realtor with the Santa Fe Association of Realtors. He enjoyed a successful careerFor over 40 years and during that time he was honored as realtor of the year.George was gifted in adobe design and used his skills in the renovation of his homeTo create a classic structure reflecting the beauty of New Mexico design. He also Created a unique mountain cabin in the mountains above Santa Fe.George loved to travel the world and he and his wife were married in Interlaken,Switzerland in 1968. He was a tireless hiker and alumnus of Outward Bound whereHe was introduced to backpacking, and he and his wife, Donna explored wildernessAreas throughout the western United States.George loved and lived life to the fullest. His wife of 54 years always said that living with George was like living in Disneyland because there was always something excitinghappening. George touched many lives with his kindness and tireless desire to be of helpTo anyone in need. He was an avid reader and especially loved the history ofWWII.George was preceded in death by his beloved Australian Shepherd, Buster.  He is survived by his wife, Donna and cat, Lassie Elizabeth Coco.There will be a memorial service on November 10 at 11:30 at the Church of the HolyFaith in Santa Fe.In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make a donation in George’s name to your charityOf choice.
