Our beloved husband, father and grandfather joined the Lord on January 16th, 2021.  Born, February 2nd, 1935 to parents, Luis and Josephine Ulibarri, in Las Vegas, New Mexico.  He is preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law, Melaquias Montoya, mother-in-law, Maria Elena Montoya, sister, Della Montoya, brother, Lupe Ulibarri, his beautiful wife Mary, and his eldest grandchild, Robbie Gallegos.

George is survived by his daughter, Gina Streit (Richard), son Robert Ulibarri (Kimberly), daughter, Patricia Gallegos. George was a caring and courageous man who worked hard to provide a loving home for his family.  He married his high school sweetheart Mary Romero in October of 1955 and moved to Santa Fe, where they began their life together. He was a crime fighter through and through, and built his career around law enforcement. He began working for the Santa Fe Police Department in 1959 and was commissioned to the New Mexico State Police in 1960.  He did wire taps for the DEA, and became heavily involved in both federal and state narcotic drug law as a narcotics agent, a job he enjoyed and excelled at.  He eventually retired from the State Police with the rank of Captain in 1985.  George was an avid fisherman who enjoyed boating and teaching his children, and later grandchildren, how to fish.  His favorite fishing spot was Storrie Lake in his hometown.  George also loved playing the guitar and singing.  He had a passion for animals, especially his cats, Ginger, Dollie, Big Girl and Big Boy, and he and his wife Mary cared for a multitude of stray cats in their backyard year round.  He was an excellent handyman and thoroughly enjoyed helping family and friends with anything they might need. He was an amazing man that will be forever be loved and missed.

Unfortunately, due to the current pandemic, services are limited to immediate family only.

My deepest condolences to all the family. My name is Betty Mtz. from Las Vegas. He was my godfather. He baptized me when he was 16 yrs if she. He stood up for his Uncle Alfredo who was unable to be here. I kept in touch with him and your Mother. Went to visit when I was in Santa Fe. Then we never we lost touch again. And I had been meaning to call him, but didn't regretfully. Then I just happened to see in Rivera funeral home to see he had passed away. I was shocked to see your Mother and grandson had also passed away. He had told maybe one of these days you can meet my son and daughters. We never had that chance. I contacted my friend Maryann Romero. She told alittle about what happened to him and your Mom.
