Gordon Burt

Biography

Gordon H Burt, 73, passed away on November 21, 2009. He was born in Taos on September 6, 1936 to Paul and Jewel Burt. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Rosamund (Hoppy) Gutierrez, and brother Pauly Burt. He is survived by his wife of forty-three years, Cynthia; son Joseph (Ana) Burt; daughter Judith (Javier) Ortiz; grandchildren Paul, Selene, and Bella; sisters Barbara (Duke) Cozart and Sylvia (Tony) Archuleta, several nieces and nephews, and a plethora of dear friends and relatives. The Benedictines were instrumental in forming a very well rounded high school education for Gordon at Holy Cross Abbey in Canon City. Gordon received his journeymans license at the age of 18, becoming the youngest person in the state to do so. He went to work for his fathers business, New Mexico Electric. He eventually took over the business until he closed it in 1981. He was drafted at the age of 23 and served in the army as a PFC in company A, 5th battle group, 1st brigade and was stationed in Korea. He met the love of his life, Cynthia OShea, just one day after she arrived in Taos. He asked her to take a ride in his new car. This was the beginning of a journey that lasted 43 years. He served his community diligently as a volunteer fireman, later becoming the chief. He was instrumental in forming the first rescue squad within the TVFD. During this period of time, his son, Joey, and his daughter, Judith, were born. Gordon was an innovative soul and smart businessman. He designed and developed many innovations that are used today in the fields of life saving technology and electrical safety. In the early 1980s, he followed his true calling in the healing arts; and, along with his wife opened C&G massage. Clients came to him for treatments at times from great distances. Through the years, he helped hundreds of people. He was an avid reader, excellent cook, and quite the storyteller. His forte was the stories accumulated from characters of Taos. Being surrounded by family was one of his greatest passions as well as good music, good food, and good company. He was a healer, teacher, advisor, and mentor. The direct honesty displayed by Gordon wasnt always appreciated. His legacy will continue on in those who knew him.

Private services will be at a later date, as per Gordons request. Arrangements by Rivera Family Mortuaries. www.riverafuneralhome.com

As an Abbey Classmate of Gordon's it is truly a shock that he has gone to be with God. I enjoyed knowing him and singing with him in Abbey's Glee Club...he was a good tenor.
God bless Cynthia.

Cynthia...
I was shocked to find out today about Gordon's passing.. He meant a lot to most of us athletes in the 80's. He indeed was a healer. Our prayers are with you and your family.
