Garcia, Ida Josina – Passed away peacefully with her loving husband and family at her side at home early on Saturday, February 11 at the age of 97. Ida was born on September 7, 1925 in the community of Cuyamungue in the Pojoaque Valley area. She made her home with her loving husband Rosendo in San Pedro in the Espanola area since their marriage in 1946. She was a member of the Santa Cruz de la Canada Parish.
Ida is survived by her loving husband Rosendo of 77 yrs. She is also survived by her sons: Ross (Rosendo, Jr.)(wife Kathleen), of San Pedro; Sammy Garcia (Partner Kelley Keresey), of Rio Rancho; Daughter: Dianne Roybal (husband Phillip) of San Ildefonso. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Gina M. Montoya, James P. Garcia (Partner Lorna Torrado), Rosendo E. Garcia (Partner Valerie Rodriguez), Jennifer Garcia (Partner Lorenzo Julia), Rhiannon Chavez (husband Tim), and Ross Phillip Roybal (wife Claire). Her greatgrandchildren: Mateo and Lucas Montoya; Celia, Angelica, and Amalia Chavez; Ezri, Ross Phillip, Jr. (RJ), Victor, and Hazel Roybal; and Ashlyn Garcia
Ida was preceded in death by her parents: Cecilio and Maria Isidora Romero of Cuyamungue and grandson Jonathan Samuel Garcia. Her sisters: Aurelia Montoya (Celestino), Juanita Ortiz (Hilario), Escolastica Lucero (Anselmo), Adelina Roybal (Filogonio); brothers: Eleuto Romero (Maggie), Secundino Romero (Franciscita, Ida), Ernesto Romero (Rumaldita), Elias Romero (Margarita), Jose Liborio Romero, and three brothers that passed away near birth or very young including her twin brother Samuel.
Ida grew up the youngest of the family children and helped on the family farm. She knew all the old methods of food preservation and cooking and brought those skills with her into her marriage and the raising of her family. She supported her husband Rosendo on the small farm they developed together. Ida was always welcoming and compassionate to visitors. She knew many spanish jokes and “dichos” from memory and could easily make anyone laugh along with her. She was a homemaker all her life and was a good saleslady selling alfalfa and apples and other fruits while Rosendo was at work. She kept records like an accountant.
Many thanks to Caregivers: Adriana Munoz, Lourdes Rascon, Lorena Antillon, and Maria Jimenez – all who Ida grew to love.
Pallbearers: James and Rosendo Garcia, Tim Chavez, Ross Roybal, and Carlos H. and Alfredo Ortiz. Honorary pallbearers: J. Carlos and Tino Ortiz and Randy Roybal.
