John “Rick” Wheeler, 73, went to his rest on January 7th, 2024. He was born in Santa Fe, NM in 1950 to John Frederick Wheeler Jr. and Arabella Luisa Gonzalez, and graduated from Santa Fe High in 1968. Rick was preceded in death by his father, John Wheeler Jr. and son, Kodi Wheeler. He is survived by his mother, Arabella Gonzalez, children, Jason Wheeler (Renee), Keith Wheeler, and Tamara Wheeler (Joel), siblings, Steve Wheeler (Kathy), Bernadette Casados (Ernie), Michael Wheeler, and Camille Mitchell, in addition to many amazing family members and life-long friends.
As a master brick mason and team roper for over half a century, Rick’s journey was filled with vigor, hard work, and passion. He delighted in spending time and swapping stories with friends, family, and newcomers. His legacy is one of joy, fortitude, and diligence, which will forever thrive through our fond memories and in the foundations, walls, and fireplaces of our community.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, February 9, 2024 at 11 AM at 3229 Rodeo Road, Santa Fe, NM with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the New Mexico Horse Rescue at Walkin N Circles Ranch: https://www.wncr.org/donate.
