Biography


Juan J. Martinez, 80, of Taos passed away January 3, 2010. He was a very devoted Christian man and very devoted to Grace Community Church in Arroyo Hondo. Juan managed the 7-11 in Taos for many years, he also worked at the Taos, Angel Fire and Valle Escondido Golf Courses. He officiated football, basketball, baseball and wrestling in Taos for over 40 years. He was well known for playing the National Anthem on the saxophone for all of Taos sporting events. He is preceded in death by parents, Zacarias and Beatrice Martinez, brothers, Vidal, Gilbert and Tomas Martinez, sister, Flora Gonzales. He is survived by wife, Mary E. Martinez, sons, Ricky Martinez of California, Larry Martinez (Anita) of Ranchos de Taos, daughters, Becky Navedo (Jorge) of Pennsylvania, Sylvia Martinez (Leonard) of Taos, Maddie Lewis (Victor) of Taos, Farrah Martinez of Taos, 9 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, 3 sisters, Marcella Rivera, Bernice Hayes and Laura Martinez.

Memorial service was held on January 12, 2010 at Rivera Chapel.

Interment will be held at the Grace Community Cemetery in Arroyo Hondo at a later date and time.

So sorry to hear about Mr. Martinez. As a kid growing up, I used to love when he reffed or umped any of my games. My father and I used stop buy the 7-11 almost every morning before work and school, lots of good memories of Mr. Martinez. I saw him play his sax at a lobo game & it brought tears to my eyes.
