Biography


JUNE C. BENTLEY, age 95, died peacefully at Holy Cross Hospital in Taos, New Mexico on October 16, 2009. She was the beloved wife of 72 years of George W. Bentley, who survives her. Born in Boston on June 11, 1914 she was the youngest of seven daughters born to Thomas and Clara (Noseworthy) Clough.

Mrs. Bentley made her home in Braintree Highlands for more than 40 years, having previously lived in West Quincy for over 25 years. The Bentleys recently moved to Taos to be with their eldest daughter.

She was a dedicated homemaker who loved to bake and decorate cakes for special occasions, including her sons wedding cake. An avid Red Sox fan she was excited to have lived long enough to see them win the World Series. A longtime Rebekah Lodge member, she belonged to the Radiant Star Lodge in Dorchester for over 75 years. Mrs. Bentley served in many offices of the Lodge including secretary, Past Noble Grand and Past Member of the Rebekah Assembly. One of the highlights of her service was participating in the decoration of the National Rebekah Lodges float in the Rose Bowl Parade in Pasadena.

A lifelong Episcopalian she attended St. Michaels Church in Milton and Emmanuel Church in Braintree where she served on the Altar Guild and was an active member of St. Marys Guild.

In addition to her husband, George, she is survived by children Carol Larimore of Taos, New Mexico, Richard C. Bentley of Indio, California and Janet E.Slagsvold of Phoenix, Arizona, grandchildren Barbara West of Weymouth, Mass, Wendy Ramsey and Mark Collier of Phoenix, Arizona and Carolyn Clark, Steven Bentley and Eric Bentley of California and great-grandchildren Sarah, Brianna, Hannah, Elsie and Keelan.

Her funeral, to which relatives and friends are invited, will be held on Friday, October 23, at 1:00 p.m. at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 519 Washington St., Braintree, with Father Robert Edson officiating. Interment will follow at Milton Cemetery.

It has been my genuine pleasure to get to know June while she lived here in Taos.
I so enjoyed her life stories, especially the one about how she and George met, courted and married that she told me many time while I would style her hair!
