Leandro Benavidez 89, born September 3,1934, was called home to be with our lord on December 23,2023 at his home in Tesuque. He is proceeded in death by his parents, Lucas and Cleotilde Benavidez, brothers Ernesto, Jacobo, Jose, Frank, David and Eloy Benavidez, sisters Sara Padilla, Lucille Jimenez and Nora Jimenez as well as many other relatives.
Leandro is survived by his wife of 61 years Julia Benavidez, Sisters Inez Sena and Frank, Cordelia Benavidez, only surviving Uncle Julian Nieto, Aunt Nellie Griego, daughters Yvonne Benavidez, Frances Romero and Garrett, grandchildren Francine Romero and Eric, Xavier Romero and Angelica, Shawn Romero, great- grandchildren, Izaiah, Xaviers, Jeremiah, Lucas and Ezekiel. Also survived by sister-in-law, Jennie Martinez, Louisa Garcia, Johnny Jimenez and many other relatives. Leandro served in the Navy from 1953-1957 then came to work for the Santa Fe Opera and retired after 30+ years. Leandro was also an active fisherman, loved going to the casinos and visiting many of his friend from near and far. He also loved going to Aspen Meadows to join his niece Celine and husband Jose and their family on their many camping trips.
Many thanks to all the people that helped take him to his appointments and Nick Nieto for his many fishing trips and visits to the VA hospital. Thank you, Eddie, Eddie Jr, Matthew, and Leroy Montoya for always being there to help at any time of day or night and to keep him entertained so he was never alone. Many thanks to everyone that brought food, drinks and monetary gifts and shared many stories of his life. Our family would like to give A special thanks to Alexandra Voinescu, Tiffany, and staff at Nephrophiles for helping him during his sickness.
