January 1st, 1945 - April 5th, 2024

Biography

Manny Marczak was born on January 1, 1945 and passed away on Friday, April 5th in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Manny’s parents, Sarah and Abram Marczak were Holocaust survivors.  Manny was born at the end of World War II in a Displaced Persons (DP) camp in  Ukraine..   The  family had to wait in the DP camp a long time for the required documents to come to the United States.  They finally were able to immigrate in 1950.   At birth, Manny was named Menachem Mendel, but an agent at Ellis Island changed his name to Manny.  After they arrived in America, they joined other relatives in Chicago.

Manny grew up in Chicago, graduating from Loyola University, Chicago.  After graduation Manny enjoyed a long and successful career in the insurance industry.  He also developed a life-long passion for sports- particularly baseball- specifically the Chicago White Sox.  Manny also enjoyed being an active participant in the Beth El community in Highland Park, IL.

Manny and his wife, Kathy, became part-time New Mexico residents in 1996.  After retiring in 2008, they became full-time Santa Fe residents.

In retirement, Manny delighted in spending time with friends and family and following his passion for his favorite sports teams, continuing his studies in Judaism, participating in Torah study at Temple Beth Shalom and watching Hallmark movies.

Manny is survived by his wife, sons David Stern (Lexi Reagan), Jason Marczak (Lindsay), and daughter Allison Marks, and grandchildren, Garret Stern, Emily Marczak and Riley Marks.  He is also survived by his brother Larry Marczak(Susan) and nephew Dan (Alana) and niece Stacy Grande (Danny).

We would like to thank all of those who provided support and comfort to Manny and his family during Manny’s long illness- Presbyterian Hospice, Egis caregivers, Rabbi Neil Amswych, Dr. Josh Brown and friends and extended family.

Services will be held at Temple Beth Shalom on Tuesday, April 9th at 10am. Interment will immediately follow service at Santa Fe Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Temple Beth Shalom.
