Margaret Gail Little was born on June 14, 1938, to Zetha and Aubrey Warren, the 4th of 6 children. She was raised in the small town of Sutherland, Nebraska, where she and her sisters sang as a trio. She graduated from high school in Wray, Colorado, and then headed to Colorado State University at the age of 17. She met Jim Little, the love of her life, as a freshman; and they were married within a year. Early on, they both worked at Martin Marietta in Denver, where she was often seen carrying messages to scientists working in a Titan Missile silo, while wearing a skirt and heels!
After five years in Las Vegas, Nevada, the Littles, now with 3 daughters, moved to Los Alamos in 1967. Gail stayed home to raise her girls, but when they were old enough, she went back to college and completed both her undergraduate and graduate degrees in Early Childhood Education. She taught music at Aspen Elementary School for many years, and kindergarten at Pinon Elementary.
When Jim retired from LANL in 1993, Gail also retired from teaching. They went on to enjoy many years of Adventure and Travel, from Hawaii to the Galapagos, with many wonderful European river cruises included.
Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend leaves many behind: beloved husband Jim, daughters Brenda (and Steve Finch), Cindy Little, Nancy (and James Craven); grandchildren Nathan, Samuel (Isabella), Michael (Elizabeth), Kathy (Tom Rogers), Jacklynn (Terry Lewis), Vesper (Jenna Burjoski); and great grandchildren Austin, Samantha, Averi, Madelynn, Alyssa, Jack, Elyse, Dylan, Garrett, Juliette, Gavin and Luca. Gail was thrilled to meet Baby Gavin in January and was anxiously awaiting the birth of Luca, who arrived last week. Gail is also survived by her brothers, Bruce Warren, and Michael Warren, and by many adoring nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Aubrey and Zetha, and siblings Richard Warren, Jean Ganzel, and Barbara Hendrix.
Gail entered the presence of her Lord and Savior on Monday morning, March 25, 2024, at the age of 85. She was full of joy and zest for life. She loved to sing at home and in the Methodist church choir, her face radiating with joy as she sang. She loved her husband of 67 years, her family, her students, her friends, her home, her Colorado mountain cabin, her piano, the mountains, golden aspens, and all the wildflowers. Her heart was full. Her smile was beautiful. We will miss her forever.
A memorial service for Gail will take place on Saturday, March 30, 2024, at 2:00 pm, at the First United Methodist Church, 715 Diamond Drive, Los Alamos, New Mexico. Gifts in her memory can be directed to the Los Alamos Methodist Church, the LA Visiting Nurses Hospice Daffodil program, and the Ark Child Development Program.
Please leave condolences, photos and stories for the family here.

She was a wonderful lady. She was always smiling and tried to be helpful to everyone. She raised a wonderful daughter Brenda who has been a wonderful wife for our oldest son Steve.

I was sick at heart to learn of Gail's death. Of course, my first thoughts were for dear Jim, followed by Cindy, Brenda and Nancy! What a loss. Gail, the pillar of our beloved Piano Group for so many years! How we all will miss her. Her wide smile, her sense of humor, her warmth, her generosity, and yes...her occasional singing at Piano Group ❤️ We love you, Gail!
