Mary Alice Sackett

Biography


Mary Alice Sackett, 92, died in Taos on April 19, 2008. She was born in Dawson, NM on January 04, 1916 to Donald and Adelaide Secrest. She was a graduate of Dawson High School and the University of Denver. She taught school in Santa Fe for five years before marrying Vern Sackett in 1941 here in Taos. Following the WWII years, the couple made Taos their permanent home in 1947. Mrs. Sackett was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Santa Fe Chapter #19 and served as Worthy Grand Matron of NM 1969-1990. She and her husband owned and operated three businesses in Taos: The Album Photo Shop, The Final Touch Frame Shop and Mr. Sackett's Surveying Business. She was a member of El Pueblito United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. Mr. Sackett died in 1997. She is survived by her daughter, Shirley Svoboda, her son in law, Grady of Albuquerque and her granddaughter, Piama of Olomouc, Czech Republic, a niece, Katie Ugrin of Lake Forest, CA and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, John.

Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at 10 AM at El Pueblito Methodist Church. Gifts may be made to the Benevolent Fund, Grand Chapter OES, c/o Grand Treasurer, Box 52, Hatch, NM 87937 or El Pueblito United Methodist Church, Taos.
