Maxine Boyer

Maxine Boyer, 82, died May 16, 2008 at the home of her daughter in Taos, N.M. She was born in Solomon, KS, December 21, 1925, the daughter of Henry Harrison Vertner and Ella Iverson. After graduating from Solomon High School in 1943, she worked for the civil service at Camp Phillips in Salina with her friends. After a year she was transferred to Ft. Warren in Cheyenne, WY and then to Colorado Springs to Camp Carson. After the war, Maxine moved to Kansas City and worked at Wilson Meat Packing where she met her future husband. She married Cecil Boyer at the Presbyterian Church in Solomon in July, 1947 and continued to live in Overland Park, a suburb of Kansas City. They had two daughters. She was an active mother; volunteering for Camp Fire and Girl Scout leader and home room mother. She was an excellent cook. In 1972 they moved to Sioux City Iowa where they started a Thrifty Instant Print business. After retirement, they returned to Overland Park in 1998 and became avid duplicate bridge players. She was preceded in death by her husband Cecil, her sister Virginia, her brother Dean, a brother and sister in infancy, and her grandson Michael. She is survived by her daughters, Janet Blake, and Nancy Enderby, four grandchildren, and one great granddaughter and nieces and nephews. She will be missed by all her friends and relatives.
