Biography

Olivia “Libby” Trujillo

1940 - February 19th, 2024.

In loving memory of Olivia "Libby" Trujillo, 83, whose life was a tapestry of warmth, laughter, and boundless love. Born and raised in the enchanting embrace of Taos, she carried its spirit with her wherever she roamed. From 1966 to 1990, she graced Tooele, Utah, with her presence, yet her heart forever remained tethered to her beloved Taos. It was there, surrounded by her cherished family, that she bid farewell to this world, her hand held gently as she embarked on her final journey.

Libby was a social butterfly; she loved to sing, visit with family and friends, and had the gift of gab. She had a sweet personality, a beautiful smile, and an unforgettable giggle that touched many people. She was loved by many and was a caregiver to her husband and son for many years. She had five children and raised two grandchildren. Libby found happiness in family and friends, and she is truly missed. There are so many cherished memories of her.

Libby obtained her license as a cosmetologist and later earned her degree in Early Childhood Education. She retired from the New Mexico Educational Retirement Board after 30 years of working in public schools in Utah and New Mexico. She had numerous acquaintances among the children she taught and the teachers she worked with. She also had many relatives whom she loved to visit as often as possible and possessed a generous heart.

Libby is survived by her children: daughter Connie Emling (Richard), son Ruben Trujillo, and daughter Diana Lopez (Larry). She is also survived by her siblings: Tony Martinez, Alice Lujan (Harry), Charlene Aguilar, Judy Cunningham (Vaughn), Joe Martinez, and Victor Martinez (Pamela). Her grandchildren: Maria Meadowcroft (Mani), David Lopez (Alicia), Jerome Lopez, Anthony Trujillo, Nathan Trujillo, Sylvia Trujillo, Caesar Trujillo (Vanessa), James Trujillo, Brianna Trujillo, and Matthew Trujillo. Libby is also survived by twenty-one great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Preceded in death by husband Jose Ruben Trujillo, parents Antonio and Helen Martinez, brother Ralph Martinez, sons Caesar Trujillo and Albert Trujillo, and grandson Mario Martinez

A memorial and celebration of Olivia’s life will take place on March 12, 2024, with a Rosary at 10 am, Mass at 11 am in Taos at Saint Francis de Asis, and burial at 2:30 pm at Santa Fe National Cemetery.

Though she may have bid farewell to this earthly realm, Libby’s spirit endures, a beacon of light guiding us through the darkness. Let us remember her not with tears, but with laughter, for that is how she would have wanted it. Let us give thanks for the love she shared and the joy she brought into our lives.

To the angels at ANVOI Hospice, Scott's House, Taos Senior Living, and Heartland Hospice, we offer our deepest gratitude for the love and care they bestowed upon our dear Libby.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in her name to Scott’s House in Santa Fe, New Mexico, at https://scottshouse.org.

Rest in peace, dear Libby. You will be dearly missed, but your love will live on in our hearts forevermore.

To the Martinez Family: I am so sorry to hear of Libby's passing. She was always so wonderful and so full of life that she made you feel so good about yourself and great that she was your friend. She was a grade or so ahead of me, but I loved that we were both members of Central Catholic High School. The whole Martinez family is special to me. Tony was my classmate; Alice and Charlene were lower classm, but we were ALL happy students at Central!! God-speed Olivia!! Lorraine Sanchez
