Patricia Louise Martin

December 9th, 1941 - March 17th, 2024

Biography

Cherished in our community for teaching art to thousands of students over 35 years, Patty Martin, a beloved wife and mother of four children, peacefully passed away at home in White Rock, NM surrounded by her family on Sunday, March 17, 2024 at age 82.

Patty was born on December 9, 1941 in Norman, Oklahoma, the first of four children to Colonel Melvin N. and Louise F. Glantz. She spent her childhood on a large family farm outside of Plainview, Texas riding horses and participating in farm duties – developing a profound love of animals and creating stories which entertained all who knew her for years after.

Patty was an avid horsewoman. As a teenager she participated in many rodeos – later handing down this legacy to her daughter and grand-daughter.   At age 16, she flew a small Cessna with just her best friend Rosemary (also 16) from Plainview, Texas to Kearney, Nebraska to visit family.

As a young adult, Patty attended Our Lady of the Lake College and Texas Tech University then traveled on to New York City to study art.

On April 19, 1969, she married the love of her life, Charles E. Martin, and together they raised four children.

In 1975, the family moved from Dallas to Los Alamos, NM and she immersed herself in the community making many friends.

Patty had a passion for art, horses and above all, her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

She had a keen eye and was a prolific artist.  She enjoyed painting animals, portraits and landscapes.  She also had a vision for spiritual story telling in her art and created beautiful religious art works. She began teaching art classes to local children and adults in 1984 and positively impacted her students with her skills.

She had a gift of prayer and saw many of them answered.

Patty was well known for her kindness and compassion toward all she met.  She was always quick to offer a helping hand and an encouraging word.  Patty was also known to take great joy in playful teasing and banter with her friends and family.  She was a loving wife and mother, a powerful woman and a fierce friend.  Most of all, a person with a strong Christian faith and unwavering principles.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother John, and her granddaughter Grace Ellen.  She is survived by her sisters, Nancy and Judy, her husband Chuck, their four children and their spouses – Jennifer (husband Nicholas), Charles Jason (wife Dianne), Nathan (wife Olga), Aaron (wife Laura), nine grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Patty’s family asks that you make a donation in her name to Los Alamos Visiting Nurses.

She allowed me to feel so proud of my creations that my parents still have this stuff hanging around 30 years later! Inspiring even in her passing- I bet you will find many folks puling out their art supplies in remembrance of Patty. You have a beautiful family, her legacy continues.

Aunt Patty helped inspire my lifelong love of horses. I have many very happy memories of family reunions at her home with all of the cousins. She gifted us one of her beautiful paintings as a wedding gift and has an honored place in our home. I am so blessed to have known her, and I am a better person for it. -Caitlin

Patty Martin was such an influence on who I am as a person. She was a gift to this world. When the Martin's moved to the white house at the end of Hacienda I made a new best friend, in Jennifer. Spending so much time with the Martin's, I was inspired by art, music, horses, skiing and faith. Patty left beautiful legacy with everyone she touched and I know she is smiling down at us from heaven with all her horses and animals. The loss of parent is deeply impacting. Wishing you all peace and fond memories as you go through the grief process. My thoughts and prayers are with Chuck, Jennifer, Jason, Nathan and Aaron and their families.
