Biography


Pauline Norma Levy Heil, age 90, of Los Alamos and Santa Fe, passed away peacefully June 2, 2018 surrounded by her family. She was born April 16, 1928 in Alexandria, Louisiana to Mary Ruth Richard Levy and Dr. Edwin Mayer Levy. She grew up in Canandaigua, New York, where her father was a Psychiatrist at the Veterans Hospital. She graduated from Cornell University, and was recruited in 1953 to teach school in Los Alamos. It was there that she met her future husband Bertram Heil. Pauline and Bert loved to travel, and while on a Study Abroad tour of Europe with friends from Los Alamos, Bertram proposed. They were married in Bolivar, Tennessee, where her father was Superintendent of the Western State Hospital, on December 27, 1955. Bertram and Pauline lived in Los Alamos for the next 35 years, raising their 2 children, Susan Deborah (Heil) Weaver now of Apple Valley CA, and Bernard Edwin Heil (deceased). Pauline and Bertram moved to Santa Fe in 1990. In 2009 they moved to the Kingston Residence in Santa Fe, where she resided until her death.
As well as her love of travel, Pauline was an avid bird watcher, and lover of Opera. She was an active member of the Los Alamos and Santa Fe Opera Guilds. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Pauline is survived by Bertram Heil, her husband of 63 years, and her daughter Susan (Heil) Weaver of Apple Valley, granddaughter, April Heather Moore, and great grandson Richard Walter Moore, as well as 6 nieces, 2 nephews, and many other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Mary Ruth Levy Harsha and son, Bernard Edwin Heil.
Plans for a Celebration of Life are pending and will be announced.
