Richard Gonzales

Biography

Richard Joseph Gonzales, 51, passed away into the waiting arms of his recently departed dad and mom, Filemon & Cora Gonzales, on Saturday, March 22, 2008. Now they may rest in peace for eternity together.

He was born May 3, 1956 in Santa Fe, NM and would be their only child. When they died so did a piece of him. He couldn't bear life without them, he loved them so much. When he realized how much his own family needed him, it was too late, illness took his life.

He grew up in Grants, NM and graduated High School there. He worked briefly for the mines and joined the Navy. After his 2nd tour of Duty, he met and married his wife of 23 years.

He worked for the United Airlines for 22 years as an Aircraft mechanic. He worked in San Francisco, Salt Lake City, and most recently LAX.

He loved and participated in all sports along with his kids. He was a loyal Raiders fan. He loved all animals especially The Wolf Dog and he owned several others.

He leaves behind his wife of 23 years, Valerie (Ortiz) Gonzales, his 2 sons: Sean, of New York, and Richard Jr., of Salt Lake City, his 2 daughters: Coralynn, his tweaty bird, and the Princess Christina, and her Lil Princess Taysialynn (6 1\2 months) she came just in time to meet her grandpa, his little sweet pea filled his heart with so much love & joy.

He leaves behind his in-laws Frank and Antoinette Ortiz, a brother in-law: The Daniel Ortiz Family, and a sister in-law: The Elizabeth Jones Family, and a special nephew: Michael Huerta; all from CA.

On his father Filemon's side, he leaves behind 2 aunts: Pina Quintana, Connie Garcia, 3 uncles: Manuel, William, and Eloy Gonzales and all of their families.

On his mother Cora's side, he leaves behind 4 aunts: Thelma Aguliar, Becky Sanchez, Ramona Quintana, and Susie Roybal, 3 uncles: Ruben & Rudy Sandoval, and David Quintana, and a special cousin Angela Roybal, who loved him like a brother.

He leaves behind many cousins on all sides. So many memories and stories still untold.

He leaves behind a special lady "Mella Long", who gave him a beautiful sister, Julie Dye and Family, and amazing twin brothers: The Kenny and Lenny Noice Families.

He left this world knowing all of you would always be there for his kids.
He left behind the entire family of Mella Long.
His last holiday would be Thanksgiving. It would be in Pheonix, AZ with his sister Julie, her kids, and Mella Long. The home was filled with love and laughter. Everyone was so happy and everything was so perfect. It was truly a magical holiday.

A Rosary will be recited at 7:00pm Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at Santa Maria de La Paz. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am Thursday, March 27, 2008 at Santa Maria de La Paz. Private Interment will follow.

I can still see Richard carrying around his personal tool set black bag and a shiny crome speed wrench nestled in the handle webbing of that bag. When working either at the hangar or at the terminal at his assigned gate he was always ready when an aircraft broke down with something. Richard was a quiet and non emotional type of guy. Always a good disposition in general and his personal beliefs, even political issues he would never hisitate his reasoning as to why. He is what I call a straight shooter, give an honest opinion whether you liked it or not, that was Richard talking. If there is anything I can do about his tools, or other personal items he may have lefted here at LAX, Let me know. In the meantime, I'll locate whatever he has here and have them sent to your address. He was an intelligent and delightful man, I miss him. My blessings and my very best to you and your family. God look over all of you. Sincerely, Jim Hanna, mechanic and AMFA officer in LAX.

Dear Valerie and family,

I am so deeply saddened by the loss that our family is suffering through right now. Your husband and father was a kind man with a good spirit, and always brought about laughter and cheer. I have absolutely nothing but good remembrances about my cousin Ricky and only wish there could have been more. I know it's difficult to see light in times like this, but I feel as though we must remind ourselves that though we feel pain right now, at least Rick isn't suffering anymore. I wish you nothing but warm thoughts and God's strength.

My deepest sympathies and Love,
Victoria Carreon

Valery
I had to leave for SF early Wednesday AM and didn't get to see the paper til evening. Thus, didn't know about the Rosary last night. I'm sorry I missed it. Will see you and the kids at the burial mass this AM.
Rick and I had planned to take a long fall horseback ride - that between his out of town Dr appointments and my work schedule, we never got to take. I'll always kick myself for not just making the time somehow. We were all shocked and saddened by the death of big ole Chief, he was loved by me and Sue and the kids as well. Most recently I was sick to learn that it was one of your dogs that was killed in what my son Chansce said looked to be a viscous dog fight down by Macho Creek/the Church. I am so very sorry for Ricks death. I hadn't known he was as sick as he was.
I hope you know that you can call on me to help in any way I can. I'll do my best to do anything you need me to do.
Sincerely with our deepest sympathy, Lee,Sue,Chansce and Ali Pittard, your neighbors just a little ways down the river Ph No: 757-2153

So many memories come to mind when I think of Ricky. Mostly my memories are of when we were young since my parents, my brother, my sister and I grew up on the same street with Uncle Phil, Aunt Cora and Ricky.

Treasured memories include the summer weekends when Uncle Phil, Aunt Cora, Ricky and my family would get together (sometimes with other family members or with family friends) and we would go camping or sometimes just spend the day at Mt. Taylor or at Bluewater Lake. During the colder months, weekends were spent at each other's homes sharing a meal and visiting.

Though time passed, whenever we spent time together we would always reminisce of our happy childhood. Even the last time when we visited with Ricky, ( a couple of weeks ago), we recalled some childhood memories. That brought a smile to all of us.

I want to impart to Valerie, Sean, Richie, Christina and Coralynn to always remember Ricky's smile and to keep his love for you in your hearts. I pray that you allow God to help you through this time.
