Robert Muirhead Forbes passed away peacefully at his cherished Taos home on January 12, 2024. Rob was born in Chicago in 1940, and moved with his family to Carmel, CA in 1945.
He graduated from Carmel High School, class of 1958, where he was an active member of the track and swim teams. He then spent time in the US Coastguard, Monterey Peninsula College and UC Berkeley, before starting his career as a ski instructor at Sun Valley.
He met and married his wife of 49 years, Jenny, in Carmel. They moved to his beloved Taos in 1969, where they lived the rest of their lives and brought up their daughter, Annabel. Rob continued to pursue his passion for the outdoors, running, skiing, including working as a ski instructor in Taos Ski Valley for over 25 years.
He maintained his connection to Carmel, regularly returning there for high school reunions and to visit his many lifelong friends and places from his youth. His yearly "Fogies for Fun" ski trips kept him active and connected to his many longtime friends in New Mexico. He was an enthusiastic tennis and ping pong player. He enjoyed listening to music and working with his hands, including woodworking (birdhouses a specialty) and painting.
Rob was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jenny, and parents Bob and Dorothy. He is survived by his daughter Annabel (Douglas); grandchildren Charlie and Charlotte; and brothers Scott, Ted and Ralph. He is also survived by his nieces, nephews and many dear lifelong friends in Taos and Carmel.
Rob had an adventurous spirit and a zest for life, and he will be greatly missed.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Luke and Pege who helped care for Rob while he was in Taos.

We would like to extend our deepest condolences to the entire Forbes family. Mr. Forbes was truly a gifted and amazing spirit! My late father, Floyd Abeyta and my uncle Filbert helped Mr. Forbes in constructing his home when he moved to Taos. He was truly a pleasure to know and love throughout the years and he will be greatly missed. All our love, Pauline, Fatima and Justice Abeyta.
