Rudy was called home to heaven on December 31, 2023. Born in Pecos, NM on March 27, 1943 to Mary and Frank Varela Sr.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Mary Varela; brother, Ralph Varela; Godson, Brian Varela; nephews, Bert Varela, Norman Varela, Ivan Varela and other very special relatives.
Rudy is survived by wife, Theresa Varela; sons: Maury Varela; Warren Varela (Bernadette); daughters: Amanda and John Keehart; Reneé Varela. Grandchildren: Celia, Ashley, Matthew (Candice), Gabrielle, Rosendo, Ariana, Bryanna (Alan). Great Grandchildren: Jaxon, Camden and Brynley. Goddaughters: Monica Lujan, Alberta Bernal, Godsons: Allen Archuleta, Brian Varela; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Most importantly, he was a kind, generous, and loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend. In his 80 years, he garnered friendship, affection, and respect from all whose lives he touched. He will be dearly missed, but his spirit, wisdom, and love will live on in the minds and hearts of all who knew, respected, and loved him.
Services will be held on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at St. Anthonys Catholic Church in Pecos, NM. Visitation at 10:00 a.m., Rosary at 11:00 a.m., funeral mass at Noon and followed by burial and reception.
Pallbearers are Rosendo Karnes, Matthew Gomez, Florencio Varela, Allen Archuleta, Archie Archuleta, Frank Anthony Varela, Anthony (Taco) Lopez, Jerry Varela. Honorary pallbearers are Nerio Roybal, Kelly Lopez, Reyes Garcia, Molly Garcia, Patsy Baca, Monica Lujan, Phil Varela, Ceasar Otero, Victor Bustos, Matthew Varela, Johnny Varela, Gilbert & Josie De La Cruz.
