Dear Mr. and Mrs. Gurule,
Please let me begin by expressing my deepest and sincerest condolences on the loss of your wonderful son, Sammy. We had the privelege of meeting Sammy when he attended our SDA Central Church in Las Cruces. Although he only attended a few times, he made a very big impact on us.
My husband, Ron, had the special privelege of getting to sit with him during one of our pot lucks that we have after each Sabbath service. Sammy had brought his delicious salsa (with avaocado chunks) to the pot luck that day. Unfortunately, I was unable to be there, but it was the first thing my husband mentioned as he walked in the door after church that day. He commented on how delicious it was and how everyone had asked him to bring it for every pot luck.
We have an 18 year old daughter at NMSU also majoring in Animal Science and we mentioned to Sammy and to her, that they should look each other up. Unfortunately, the classes are so large, that they didn't get to contact each other. How we wish they had. How we wish that we had had the time to do alot of other things too. We have never met a young man like Sammy--that made such a big impression in such a short time. He was so pleasant, sweet, friendly, and you could see that he had Jesus in his heart. It was obvious, by the way he presented himself. You did an excellent job in raising him.
It is comforting knowing that we will all see each other in Jesus Christ again someday soon and we pray that He will comfort you and bless you as we all wait patiently for that glorious day.
I was telling my mother and uncle about this terrible tragedy and it turns out that my uncle knows both of you. His name is Leonard Ramirez and he worked in Ojo Caliente and that area when he was in the State Police. He had nothing but nice things to say about you and your family.

I only knew him for a short period of time while he attended school here at NMSU, but during that time he made his love for the both of you clear and had high goals set for himself. MY thoughts and prayers are with you at this time of sorrow, take comfort in the lord and know that he will never leave you nor forsake you, You raised a wonderful son, you are all beautiful people. A true example of what life should really be lived like here on earth. we will never forget what you and sammy did for us when my father had his stroke. the comfort and peace i felt as he assured me that my dad was going to be ok. Well i can remember the first time I met you, we were in Glorieta at that retreat. I had so much fun with you, you were the only person who saw me for who I really was. The person beneith that pretty face. I thank you for that and I am sorry that I never gave you that chance, but you were so far away and it hurt me that I would not be able to see you that often. But I want your family to know that I loved you and you will be in my heart forever. And I know that you are in a better place right now. Lucky you, you made it to the place where I want make it some day. I just wish that I would have had one more day to see you, but you know what I will see you again very, very soon!! I cannot believe how hard that would be, I want you to know that everyone who has signed this book and those that havn't are all thinking of you guys right now. When you get down and are sad I would ask that you think of this quote,"Don't cry because it's over, Smile because it happened." I always looked up to Sammy. He taught me right from wrong and taught me to dream.If I hadn't of met Sammy I know that I would have no self asteame.
