Steve Barela

April 20th, 1971 - October 5th, 2022

Biography

Steve Barela passed away peacefully on October 5, 2022 in Santa Fe, New Mexico at the age of 51. He is preceded in death by his grandparents Ramon and Stella Barela; Teofila Martinez; sister, Arlene Born and brother-in-law Phillip Meek. He is survived by his parents, Eddie and Lupe Barela; his three sons, Kevin Barela, Adrian Barela and Ryan Barela; brother Joe Barela and his wife Loretta Barela; sister Diana Meek; as well as many more family members, loved ones and friends.

Steve will be remembered for his humor, his stubbornness and most importantly, his huge heart. He was always willing to lend a hand. Steve started working on cars with his dad when he was a young child and turned the skills he learned into becoming one of the best mechanics in Santa Fe. He loved spending time outdoors camping and fishing, spending time with his sons and was an avid sports fan. He loved his Denver Broncos through the good times and the bad. Steve was also a remarkable storyteller. He was so incredibly animated and was able to captivate us all with his stories no matter how interesting they were. Steve was a fun loving man and loved to play pranks and tell jokes. He did an excellent job at reminding us all to not always take ourselves too seriously. He will be dearly missed.

A mass will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, November 3 at St. Anne Catholic Church.
