Susan Bossenberry

1951 - December 5th, 2023

Biography

Longtime Taos resident and well known art dealer, Susan Bossenberry passed away on Tuesday, December 5th, 2023 at her home in Taos, New Mexico. She was 72 years old. Born in 1951 and raised in Grand Bend, Canada, she remained a Canadian citizen her whole life although she was a legal resident of the United States since she was 14. Susan lived and worked in Michigan, New York City , Chicago and Albuquerque before she moved to Taos to work in the hospitality and art industries. She worked in the hospitality industry for 18 years and then for 25 years in the art business in Taos. With stints in several Taos art galleries she was best known for establishing the Susan Wilder Fine Art Gallery on Kit Carson Road where she was Co-Owner with her close friend Rob Nightingale. The Gallery now operates as Wilder Nightingale Fine Art where it remains voted the Number one best gallery by the Taos News People's Choice Awards. It was an honor that Susan was always proud of. She often said her Taos artists were among the best in the world. In her earlier years as a teenager she was a bush pilot in Canada and loved to fly every chance she got, even hot air balloons. She was fearless and never met an air craft she didn't like. Her strong sense of adventure then took her to Taos Ski Valley where she became close friends with Ernie Blake and the Blake family. Under the watchful eye of expert skiers at the valley, she herself became a highly skilled skier taking on the most challenging runs at the Valley. She loved the ocean and especially the beaches in Mexico. At home she enjoyed taking care of her Borzoi Russian Wolf Hounds, especially, Chip; her favorite companion on walks to the Mable Dodge Lujan House. She is survived by two sisters, Sandra Taylor of Ontario, Canada and Debra Herdman of Oakland, California; her brother Michael Bossenberry of Ontario, Canada, special niece Kristin Taylor of Ontario, Canada, a nephew and two grand nieces. Susan was a beautiful soul. She was fiercely independent and lived and died on her own terms. A special thanks to her sister Debra and the hospice workers who took care of her until her final days, and her close friends Rob Nightingale, Barbara Cottom, Ernest Ortega, and Candy Marsters. She is preceded In death by her mother, Bernice Harlen Bossenberry, her father William Bossenberry, and Step Father Les Barr.

A celebration of Life event will be planned for the spring.
