Biography

Suzanne D. Harris

June 20, 1932 – May 8, 2021

Suzanne (Sue) D. Harris, loving wife and mother, business woman, voracious reader, civic volunteer, world traveler, seamstress/quilter and avid bridge player, died peacefully at home in Santa Fe surrounded by family members on May 8, 2021. Sue is survived by her loving husband Neal L. Harris; two daughters, Stephanie (Andy) Meyer Merrifield, and Pamela (David) Dresher; stepson Mike (Pam) Harris; two stepdaughters, Michelle Sosa (Armand) and Mona (Rod) Hoialmen; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents Edith Evelyn Wood and Chester Arthur Schwenzfeier, her stepfather Everett Moore, half-sister Cosmo Moore, stepson Matthew Harris and grandson Daniel Mason Dresher.

Born on June 20, 1932, Sue was raised in Pasadena, California and graduated from John Muir High School where she was runner up for the 1950 Rose Queen and rode in the parade that year. After living in California and New Mexico during early adulthood, Sue moved to Pacific Grove, CA where she worked in office administration. While living here, she met Neal L. Harris, a US Naval officer who became her best friend and husband of fifty years. Upon his Naval retirement in 1975, they moved to Santa Rosa, CA where Sue earned her real estate license and worked for the next 19 years. They retired to Santa Fe, NM in 1994 where Sue volunteered with Bienvenidos by greeting tourists on the plaza, was a charter member and office holder with Renesan, and was a long-time member of the Santa Fe Bridge Club. She and Neal travelled widely throughout the US and abroad. In addition to volunteer work and traveling, Sue continued her lifelong passion of reading widely, sewing and quilting, and winning at duplicate bridge.

Sue will be sorely missed by one and all.

The family wishes to thank all who supported Sue during her illness and Del Corazon Hospice for their wonderful care. The family plans a celebration of Sue’s life at a future date.

In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Santa Fe Kitchen Angels or Santa Fe Del Corazon Hospice Haviland-Carter Foundation.

Neal
We are so sorry to learn of Sue’s death. We loved our bridge dates with you both and missed seeing you at the club. What a talent she had for quilting. What a sharp mind at the bridge table.
A loss for all of us.

Dear Neal,
I have such good memories of playing bridge with you and Sue. Such a delightful pair and always interesting and fun to play with/against. You both added positive energy to the Bridge Club and its members will miss Sue.
