Webb Lindsley Wallace

Webb Lindsley Wallace, 78 – A resident of Santa Fe passed away on March 16, 2019. He was born December 18, 1940 in Dallas Texas to James E. and Rose Margaret (Rosie) Wallace. Mr. Wallace married Ann Marie Donnohue in Dallas on June 29, 1963. He is preceded in death by his parents James E. and Rose Margaret (Rosie) Wallace; brother, James E. Wallace, Jr. Mr. Wallace is survived by his wife of 55 years, Carol Ann Wallace; son, Michael Rhodes Wallace; daughter, Lindsley Wallace Lee; grandsons: Webb Ryan Lee and Michael Morgan Wallace; granddaughter, Meaghan Alexandra Lee.
A Dallas native Webb graduated from Hillcrest High School in 1959. He attended the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee where he was President of his fraternity, Phi Delta Theta, a member of the Order of Gownsmen, Member of Omicron Delta Kappa, A National Leadership Honor Society for College Men and Phi Beta Kappa. He received his MBA from Stanford University.
In 1963 he and Carol Ann Marie Donnohue married and settled in Dallas to raise their family.
Webb began his business career and was actively involved in the development of Las Colinas, the area surrounding DFW Airport and Texas Stadium. On moving into independent real estate development his first project was Houston Place, a residential hotel for families of patients at the Methodist Heart Hospital. Webb was an active member of Highland Park Presbyterian Church. As a member of the Salesmanship Club of Dallas he was totally committed to their program for troubled and disadvantaged young men. In 1990 it was his honor to chair the Bryon Nelson Golf Tournament, the Clubs major fundraiser.
In 1990 he and Ann “retired” to Santa Fe where he was a partner in opening and ownership of a new retail establishment on the Santa Fe Plaza Simply Santa Fe. He returned to a more familiar area and began building storage facilities in Santa Fe and other sites across the country.
Never an athlete but always a sportsman Webb loved hunting and fishing with friends and his 4 legged companion Oso, a black lab. He was in awe of all wide open spaces especially “the ranch” in Montana and the vastness of the New Mexico landscape with its vivid blue sky – best viewed from the deck of their home in La Tierra. His real dream of life is New Mexico came true when he re-invented himself as a “cow boy”. With good friends and members of the Chuck Wagon Trail Riders he and his trusted steed, Po, were able to enjoy vistas many of which could only be seen by horseback.
He was an avid reader and student of Civil War, WWII history and any Rudyard Kipling Poetry. Membership in Tuien Sabe provided good time for discussions and dinner with friends.
As a member of Church of the Holy Faith, he served as an usher and a member of the Men’s Bible Study. His church family was “home base” for him and Ann.
At the end of the day the most important things in Webb’s life were his family, his wife of 55 years as well as Wookie and Sugar, his children who loved and admired him, and his grandchildren who adored their granddaddy and sat with rapt attention as he invented tales such as the Easter Bunny who comes down the chimney at Christmas and throws eggs all around the living room, his many friends who endured his slightly skewed sense of humor and dry wit and his business associates who respected his intelligence, sense of honor and decency.
Webb loved his God and my faith assures me he is at rest in the arms of the God who loves him. The family wishes to thank the care staff at Legacy of Santa Fe for their loving care and the Ambercare for their gentleness and kindness these last few weeks. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, April 12, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of the Holy Faith in Santa Fe.
