William Blackburn Stallcup, Jr., Ph.D.
October 18, 1920 - June 7, 2008

Born in Dallas, TX, William "Bill" Stallcup received degrees in Biology from Southern Methodist University in Dallas and the University of Kansas in Lawrence. Stallcup was a First Lieutenant in the Army Air Force and was stationed in England during World War II. He spent his entire professional life at SMU, serving in various capacities from professor to administrator and even as President ad Interim during a particularly rocky time in the university's history. Stallcup taught at Fort Burgwin for more than 20 years and was its director for part of that time. A resident of Llano Quemado for 22 years, Stallcup served as Chairman of the Board of the Ghost Ranch Living Museum and the Taos Institute of Art, and oversaw development of the new facility for the Taos Humane Society. He is survived by his wife, Pat, of 65 years, 5 children, 6 grandchildren, and his brother. A memorial service will be held July 20 at 10:30 a.m. at the Fort Burgwin Research Center.
